There have been various surveys on the distribution of species along the coast of Oman. But no matter how many surveys are conducted none can claim authoritatively that a particular species does NOT exist in the area.
Obviously, the more time spent in the water, the more comprehensive a survey can claim to be.
Amateur observers, such as myself, have spent many hours observing fishes along the Oman coast, and can complement the findings of official surveys. The following species have been observed by the author in the Gulf of Oman between 2002 and 2006, confirmed by the following photographs taken there:
